Professional Work

ThreatSecure Network

A web application built with AngularJS that allows administrators to detect, analyze, and respond to threats anywhere on their network. Threats and network data are correlated to give a complete view of malicious activity over any period of time. Users can filter network data down to a granular level, visually analyze patterns, and set alerts or block any potentially malicious IP addresses, URLs, or files that match a specific MD5 or SHA-256 hash.

This product is built for security analysts and system administrators on enterprise and corporate networks. It comes installed on custom hardware built to analyze network traffic, which is then packaged and shipped out to corporate clients.

Virtru Dashboard

An AngularJS web app for administrators to manage their organization's users, secure email policies, rules, and more. I created the Dashboard from scratch, and most of my work at Virtru was spent adding new features to it and improving usability. I was the lead engineer on the project from my first day at Virtru and worked on it just about every day. The Dashboard gives users a way to control their secure email policies by allowing them to revoke and reauthorize email, set expiration dates, see who has forwarded their messages (and to whom), all with full search capabilities.

Visit the Virtru Dashboard by clicking here. Note that unless you are an organization administrator, many of the advanced features will not be available.

Virtru Browser Extension

A plugin for Chrome and Firefox that allows Gmail, Yahoo, and Outlook send and receive encrypted email and attachments seamlessly. I did most of the programming for the various user interfaces, including the underlying JavaScript code for attaching our elements to Gmail's page and keeping them there. This is the company's flagship product, and allows anybody to effortlessly protect their email and attachments. While most of my work was UI programming, I also took care of a large number of bug fixes and updates, which we had to do often as the various email clients updated their pages.

Virtru Secure Reader

A web app that allows users to read encrypted email messages without needing to have a browser plugin installed. This was a much-needed application for customers who didn't have administrative rights on their computers and for other browsers that the Browser Extension didn't support. I worked on several of the transitions, layout, and slide-out menu, as well as a few ease-of-use updates and bug fixes.

Virtru Pricing Page

An Interactive page for explaining how Virtru's pricing model works. I did all of the programming and user interface work for the page from scratch, without the aid of any libraries. Everything is done with pure JavaScript and CSS, and the page rearranges itself to render appropriately on small screens.

This page is live on the Virtru website:

GitHub

I have been a regular contributor to several projects on GitHub for the past three years. Unfortunately, most of them are private and my contributions to them aren't publically visible. Here's what you would see if those repositories were public:

Personal Work

The Wilderness

A game prototype I build when I was learning how to use JavaScript. Created primarily for learning the language, but also for testing terrain generation & pathfinding algorithms, designing and constructing a game engine, and optimizing rendering using an HTML5 canvas. The Wilderness is a procedurally-generated game world that extends infinitely in every direction. Game units have a number of pathfinding behaviors to help them traverse the world and avoid obstacles.

I have a live demo of the game available on my website, as well as detailed documentation on my GitHub page.

Live Demo Documentation

Briefcase Romanin

A Point-and-Click Adventure game, set in the style of the classic Lucas Arts titles I grew up playing, like Monkey Island and Day of the Tentacle. Originally created for an Xbox Live Arcade contest called Dream Build Play, the game featured a fresh-faced and confused dishwasher, a living (but dying) briefcase, a speedboat crash, lighthouse sabotage, insurance fraud, and so much more, all set against the backdrop of the mysterious Club Minaret.

I worked on this game on and off for several years after college, when I was between other obligations. This was at a time when I was learning so many new things about game programming, so I kept coming back and redoing my work, either in a new language or just in a better way. By now I've built the core components of the game five or six times. I always saw it as a great learning opportunity, so even though we haven't released the game, I've gotten a lot out of the project.

Andrej Bevec and I collaborated together to build Briefcase Romanin, with me doing the programming and him the beautiful art. We wrote a very long and hilarious script that I hope will someday see the light of day. I'd love to come back to this one in the future.

This video is a trailer we made to accompany the game demo we submitted to the contest.
